Annual General Meeting - Calling all SMHA Members

As members of the SMHA you have entrusted the Management Council and Executive to use your membership fees wisely and to improve the level of fun hockey for your children. Once a year at the Annual General Meeting these volunteers will formally report back to you on what they’ve done for the past season and what they are planning to do for the next season(s). This is your chance to get informed, to ask questions, to vote on proposed changes to the SMHA Constitution and to become part of this group if you choose.
Stittsville Minor Hockey Association Annual General Meeting
When: Saturday April 24th, 2010
Time: starting at 10 AM
Where: Isaac's, 6400 Hazeldean Road in Stittsville
Come out and hear some news, chat with your friends, vote in new Executive members and changes to the SMHA constitution. Pizza will be served and two paid registration fees for the 2010/2011 season will be raffled off (you must be in the room to win!)
Executive Positions
Executive positions are filled by candidates who are willing to volunteer their time to perform the duties of the position and to work with the other Executive and Council members in delivering a great hockey program for our kids. Several positions will be voted in at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Executives have a vote to decide all SMHA business and typically meet once a month in addition to the work they do outside of the meetings.
Any member of the SMHA is welcome to put forward their own name or the name of person who would be willing to fill the position. Nominations should be sent to the Nominating Chairperson, named below, by April 9th, 2010. The Chairperson will check that each person is indeed willing to stand for election at the AGM. The Chairperson will bring the slate of names to the current Executive and these names shall be posted on the SMHA website 7 days prior to the AGM.
If a name has not been nominated against an open position, the Chairperson will accept nominations from the floor at the AGM. If a name has been posted for a position, a nomination for that position will not be accepted at the AGM. If no elected members are nominated by April 7th, the Chairperson will accept nominations from the floor at the AGM.
You can nominate yourself or someone else to more than one position but each person can only hold one Executive position.
The positions up for election for a 2-year term this year are:
President (2 year term)VP Operations (2 year term)
Director House (2 year term)
Director Competitive (2 year term)
VP Finance (1 year term)

Council Members
Council members are appointed by the Executive for one year terms though many have been known to repeat for several years. They participate in the monthly meetings, contribute their thoughts and ideas but do not vote on items requiring a vote.
You don’t need any specific experience to do any of these, just a positive attitude, a love of kid’s hockey and a willingness to give of your time to make our association a better place for all of us. If you are ready to give back to your association and get tons of satisfaction at the same time, why not volunteer? You’ll join a committed group of fun people whose actions are driven by one thing and one thing only – What’s best for the kids.
