Bantam C Chargers go Undefeated
International intrigue was in the air at the Kanata House League tournament as the Stittsville Chargers’ took to the ice against the New York State Webster Cyclones in game 1. While the Cyclones proved to be worthy opponents, the Chargers came out fast and strong and won this game with a score of 3 to 2.
In game number 2, the early hour (7:30 a.m.) did not appear to hamper the speed, determination and well executed play that was demonstrated by both teams throughout the game. The Chargers won this game with the Nepean Cavaliers 6-0.
In the final game of round robin play the Charges had two new experiences - having to come from behind and having a tied game. The Chargers’ tournament record put them in first place and a move to the semi-final game.
The semi-final game began as previous games with the Chargers skating hard, showing good puck against the Kanata Thrashers. The game ended with a score of 3-1 for the Chargers and moved the team to the Championship game.
During the championship game against the Nepean Titans, it quickly became evident to any spectator in the arena why these two teams were meeting in the final game of this four-day tournament. Both teams began the game with speed, good passing and communication among players. Both offense and defense were evenly matched as was demonstrated by the almost continuous flow of the game. Fortunately the Chargers dug deep, collapsing to the net, repeatedly challenging the Titan’s attack and clearing the puck from the zone until the final buzzer sounded giving the Chargers a 2-1 victory and the Championship.
The team would like to extend a big thank you to its management: Coach Tim Burns, Assistant Coach Gary Hoffe, Manager Dwight Edmondson and Trainer Andrew DePippo. They are an awesome group!
