Bantam C Chargers win again
The West End House League Tournament was all local teams from neighboring areas with the Stittsville Chargers taking to the ice against the Osgoode Rideau Senators in game 1. The Senators were strong and fast opponents, but the Chargers came out and won the game with a score of 3 to 0.
Later the same day, the late hour (9:00 p.m.) did not appear to hamper the teams determination, effort and well executed play that was demonstrated by both teams throughout the game. The Chargers won this game 5 to 1 with the Nepean Hornets.
In the final game of round robin play the Chargers experienced the agony of defeat against the Nepean Ice Eagles with a score of 4 to 1. The Chargers tournament record put them in second place and a moved onto a semi-final game.
The semi-final game began and finished with the Chargers skating hard, passing frequently and keeping the puck in the Kanata Spartans end. The game finished with a score of 5-2 for the Chargers advancing them to the Championship game.
It quickly became apparent why the Chargers and the Kanata Zboyz were in the championship game of this tournament. Both teams began the game with speed, good passing and communication among players. Both offense and defense were evenly matched as was demonstrated by the almost continuous flow of the game. Fortunately the Chargers dug deep, collapsing to the net, repeatedly challenging the Spartan’s attack and clearing the puck from the zone until the final buzzer sounded giving the Chargers a 6-2 victory and the Championship.
The team would like to extend a big thank you to its management: Coach Tim Burns, Assistant Coach Gary Hoffe, Manager Dwight Edmondson and Trainer Andrew DePippo. They demonstrate awesome leadership for the team!
