Stittsville Stallions Capture the 2007-2008 LCMHL Novice A Championship

The Novice A Stittsville Stallions capped a remarkable season on Saturday, March 30th, winning the Lanark Carleton Minor Hockey League (LCMHL) Novice A league championship with a 4-2 victory over the Osgoode Rideau Senators in front of a packed house at the Stittsville Community Centre.
The Stallions won the 4-point series 4-0, after shutting out the Senators 2-0 in game 1 on Friday night in Osgoode.

The series victory was a hard-earned team effort. The exciting final match was deadlocked 1-1 early in the third period, when Stallions captain Shane Spencer erupted for 3 straight goals. Max Roumeliotis provided stellar goaltending for the Stallions, including the shutout in game 1. A solid defense core kept the hard-charging Senators at bay throughout the final minutes to seal the victory.

The Stallions finished their dream season in 2nd place in the 9-team LCMHL; also winning the West Carleton, West End, Carleton Place, and South End tournaments to go with their league championship. After losing to Carleton Place on January 2nd, the Stallions went undefeated the rest of the year – a remarkable run of 26 straight league, playoff, and tournament games.

The Stallions also participated in the Pink at the Rink fundraiser for Breast Cancer Action, an annual event spearheaded by Stallions head coach Peter Lefebvre.

Lefebvre was extremely proud of his team, saying, “What these boys accomplished this season is tremendous. Many kids never get the chance to win a single tournament. Winning four tournaments was certainly sweet, and the league championship was icing on the cake. These kids worked hard all year, and fully deserve the success that has come their way. These memories will last a lifetime, and I couldn’t be prouder.”

The Stallions roster includes: Captain – Shane Spencer; Assistant Captains – Jonathan Poskus, Ryan Bangs; Goaltender – Max Roumeliotis; Players – David Cheung, Justin Palmer, Mitchell Usher, Brett Ellis, Brendan Morin, Sam Pare, Daniel Lambert, Kyle Lefebvre, Daniel Weisenberg, Stephen Weisenberg, Billy Ford, Matthew Trumble; Head Coach – Peter Lefebvre; Assistant Coaches – Scott Morin, Jim Weisenberg, Ron Palmer; Goaltending Coach – Peter Roumeliotis and Manager – Scott Spencer.

Congratulations to the entire Stallions organization for representing Stittsville so well this year.
