February 2011 Newsletter - Part 2
Hello there,
I know it's only been a few days since the last newsletter but I was so thrilled to see the great nominations for the Rory Bradley Volunteer of the Year that I had to write again to share them with you and encourage you to nominate your favorite volunteer - after all we have hundreds to choose from, like:
- Dion Pike, a coach who always brings out the positive in his team of 8 year olds;
- Bob Lawrence, coach and convenor who is tireless, enthusiastic, realistic and always there for the kids;
- Charlene McEnerey, convenor and SMHA secretary whose passion and commitment to making Novice a great and fun program shines out for all to see;
- Scott Bradley, coach of not one but two teams who is positive, encouraging, patient and a great role model with his attitude of respect for all.
I love reading these little stories - please take a minute and show your thanks by nominating someone, just click on the comments link at the end of this blog post. You only have to write a couple of sentences.
Thanking Peter Valters
Speaking of volunteers, I also want to take a minute to recognize Peter Valters, SMHA Dad and D4 Risk and Safety Coordinator, who on his own stepped up earlier this year to write up an application for the SMHA to request a grant from Chevrolet's Making Dream Possible program. Thanks to Peter, a $2,000 Club Coaching grant was just awarded to the SMHA which will be used to offset the costs of Coach clinics for our volunteer coaches. Many many thanks to Peter and to Chevrolet.
VP Finance Needed
Still on the subject of Volunteers, the VP Finance position will be coming open at this year's Annual General Meeting in April. We've learned it's easier for the person coming in to get involved before their term begins, so they can help set budgets for next year etc We will be needing a new volunteer as Kerry Hisko won't be returning. If anyone has some accounting knowledge and wants to help, please reply to this email. Kerry tells us it takes about 10 hours of time per month and you'll be a voting member of the SMHA executive.
Non-Checking Survey
Lastly, we only have about 300 responses to the Survey about our move to introduce more non-checking into our House programs. Please take one minute (yes that's all it takes!) and share your thoughts. If you can also forward this email to your fellow SMHA members I'd be grateful as not everyone is on this email list.
As always, I read every reply to this email, so keep the feedback coming! There's nothing worse than feeling you're writing into a black hole, or worse yet boring people!
Yours for the kids,
Lynda
