September 2008 Newsletter
Hello everyone,With evaluations winding down and teams almost set, we're at 1120 players this year (excluding Juvenile). That's up a bit from last year, and already hockey fever is rampant. We all can't wait to get back into those chilly arenas to watch our kids play the greatest game on earth! Till then, here are some news tidbits to keep you going.
WE THANK YOU!
Last month we sent out a call for help. We needed volunteers and you responded - BIG TIME! We thank all of you who responded with offers to help, and even if your preferred position was filled by the time you responded, we thank you for even offering!
SMHA CALENDAR
The SMHA website now has an Association Calendar - giving you a heads up on all the big upcoming events. Did you know the house league season officially starts Oct 17th? Check out all the key dates here.
BUY - SELL - GIVE AWAY
Ever wondered what to do with those skates or shin pads or even roller blades sitting in your basement? Ever wondered where to buy some gently used equipment without having to drive to Orleans? Stop wondering and start buying and selling on your very own website. Check out the new SMHA Classified Section!
CLINICS
The SMHA is hosting two more clinics this season, a Speak Out Clinic on Oct 6th, and and Intro to Coaching Clinic on October 26th. For general info on whether you need or should take these clinics, check out our Clinic FAQs.
BELL CAPITAL CUP
The SMHA is one of several minor hockey associations hosting the prestigious Bell Capital Cup, the world's largest minor hockey tournament. This is a great opportunity for fund raising for your team as 10 SMHA teams will be selected to help out when games are scheduled at the GRC and Stittsville arenas. Each team will be required to commit about 100 hours in total and should be able to make between $1000 and $1500. If your team is interested, please contact Kim Morin.
FUND RAISING
Speaking of fund raising, this is the time of year when we all start thinking about it for our teams. It can be a ton of fun or dare I say, a bit tedious. If you'll send in your ideas for great fund raising events, I'll post them on our site to share with everyone else. Don't be shy - everyone will benefit. Just hit reply. My all time most successful fundraiser was selling pumpkins - yours?
See you at the rink!
