September 2010 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

With the 2010/2011 hockey season just about to start, there is a lot going on. Read on to make sure you don't miss anything, as ice times start very very soon. First and foremost though - DON'T FORGET TO REGISTER!

Registration Fees increase Sept 1 for Returning players

If you have a returning player and you haven't already registered online, you'll want to do so quickly -  the reduced fees for early signup ends tomorrow August 31st.

Volunteers Needed

Without a full slate of volunteers, we simply cannot offer the quality program that you have come to expect from our Association. We need some of YOU to step up and volunteer for the following key positions:

  •     Director- House Program
  •     Equipment Manager
  •     Clinics coordinator
  •     Risk Management coordinator
  •     Tournament coordinator
  •     Sponsorship coordinator
  •     Fundraising coordinator

No experience is needed, there are many people to help you learn. We're counting on you. Fill out this form to indicate your interest and someone will contact you to give you more info.

Goalie Equipment Return & Rental Night

A reminder that you can still return all goalie equipment from last season and rent some for your player for this year today August 30, from 6:30-8:00 pm, at the Ace Self Storage facility, on Westbrook Rd (in the Carp Rd Business Park). Contact equipment.goalies_2@stittsvilleminorhockey.com with any questions.  If you have any other SMHA equipment in your possession, please return it immediately by contacting operations_2@stittsvilleminorhockey.com. Players who have not returned their equipment from last year won't be allowed on the ice.

House Program Conditioning

The pre-season kicks off with some conditioning - the first sessions for House players will take place between September 1st-7th. Visit the new Ice Times tab at the top of the SMHA website to find your pre-season ice times, and make sure you check the webpage often as the schedule changes often at the beginning of the season. If you have any questions, contact your convenor.

RAMS Competitive Club Conditioning and Try-Out Sessions

There are still a few spots open in the Stittsville RAMS competitive program conditioning sessions. They start in a few days so if you're interested, don't wait.

Competitive try-outs start September 9th and registration is now open.  All interested players are welcome.  Details and registration form are on the website.

New to the SMHA Website: Ice Times and SMHA Blog

All regular season practice ice times will now be posted on the SMHA website under Ice Times, located in the top menu of the SMHA website.   We've added this feature to make it more convenient for everyone and to to provide greater transparency in the way ice is allocated among teams and age groups.

The SMHA Blog is now up and running and the conversation there is fascinating.  We'll be adding more articles that we hope will encourage feedback, and if you have an article you'd like us to post for you, e-mail it to us.

Clinics

The SMHA is hosting several clinics this year, two Speak Out clinics for team volunteers and parents (October 4th or 23rd) and a Body Checking clinic for players PeeWee and older (September 3rd) have already been scheduled and we are working on some coach and trainer clinics so keep an eye on the website for dates and details.

Buy and Sell Hockey Gear

Need hockey equipment? Want to sell hockey equipment? Visit the SMHA Classified section to buy and sell these goods in your own community.  There's all kinds of great stuff there right now - skates, sticks, pads - even some hockey pylons!  There is no cost to buy or sell.

Don't Forget your Mouth Guard

Mouth guards are mandatory for all players and must be worn at all practices and games-- no exceptions.

Stittsville's Smile Savers Sportsguards offers single, dual or tri-colour custom-fit mouth guards for $55, including taxes (group discounts available). To book your appointment, or for more information, contact Brenda Kita (R.D.H.) at  (613) 836-4198, or kitas@sympatico.ca

We will be back in touch in September. In the meantime, don't forget to check the SMHA website for regular updates.

Counting the days until the kids hit the ice!
