The following volunteer positions are open for the 2010-2011 season. They are all one year appointments. You'll have fun, learn lots and have an opportunity to shape the hockey experience for the better for your kids. Without you, too much work falls on too few people and the quality of hockey can't possibly improve. Give it a try!

DIRECTOR, HOUSE PROGRAM (Position has been filled for the 2010/2011 season)
An important and influential position within SMHA-- voting position on the SMHA Executive. House level and experience with SMHA hockey programs are mandatory requirements for this position. Will represent the SMHA at the ODMHA House / Recreational meetings; guide hockey coaching / player / team selection and development within the House Program; be responsible for evaluating any player movements that happen between their respective levels; call and chair meetings with the conveners regarding the development, operation, and administration of the House Hockey Program and will submit their recommendations to the Management Council for approval; coordinate convenor activities; get involved with member concerns or complaints if the convenor is unable to resolve the issue; and supply team lists to the Registrar within two weeks of team formation.
Clinics Coordinator (Position has been filled for 2010/11 season) : Coordinates a number of clinics that SMHA hosts, involves scheduling the clinics, booking a room, accepting reservations, working with webmaster to have details of the clinics posted on the SMHA and ODHA websites. Busiest in the early Fall, not a heavy workload portfolio. Non-voting member of the Management council. Will work most closely with Lynda Partner, VP Support Services.
Communications: (Position has been filled for 2010/11 season) You'll be the SMHA's roving reporter, sharing news about the association, team successes, and decisions made at management council meetings. You'll coordinate SMHA advertising in local papers, and work closely with the webmaster to continue to add content to the SMHA website. A busy portfolio, especially during September, requires constant attention throughout the season and a willingness to attend monthly management council meetings. A love of communicating is needed, no technical experience required. Non-voting member of the Management council. Will work most closely with Lynda Partner, VP Support Services. Convenors at IP, Novice, Atom, Peewee, Bantam (All positions have been filled for 2010/2011 season), Midget and Juvenile age levels: Convenors are the “Go-To” people, coordinating activities and policies that affect all the teams at one age level. They deal primarily with ice time allocation, communication of key association policies and programs, and addressing parent questions and concerns. Acts as a liason between team officials and the Management Council. Requires an organized, open-minded person who is prepared to be busiest in September and October. As the workload for this role can be signfiicant, role is often shared with another person - a co-convenor. Non-voting member of the Management council.
Equipment/ Goalie Equipment Coordinators (Positions have been filled for 2010/2011 season) : Responsible for all hockey equipment owned by the Association. Maintains an inventory of equipment, responsible for a budget determining requirements for new equipment for the following year, coordinates purchases of equipement, ensures that all equipment issued to teams is returned immediately following the playing season. Busiest in the pre-season and at end of season as equipment is distributed and then re-collected. Non-voting member of the Management council. Will work most closely with Glenn Austin, VP Operations.
Fundraising Coordinator: Responsible for coming up with ideas to raise money for the SMHA and then working with a team to implement them. Requires an energetic organized person who is good with people. Non-voting member of the Management council. Will work most closely with Kerry Hisko, VP Finance.
Ice Scheduler - RAMS Competitive Club: The ice scheduler is responsible for the allocation of practice ice to the various competitive teams. Requires an organized person with experience with excel, timing of work is ongoing throughout the year with more time required in September and October. Will work most closely with Tim Sheehan, Director Competitive Programs.
Sponsorship Coordinator: Works with companies who are interested in sponsoring minor hockey in Stittsville. Develop relationships and programs to show value for sponsorship dollars. Works closely with VP Finance and President. Requires an outgoing people loving person, no hockey experience necessary. Will work most closely with Kerry Hisko, VP Finance. Non-voting member of the Management council.
Risk and Safety Coordinator (Position has been filled for 2010/2011 season): Shall be responsible for the administration and operation of the SMHA Risk and Safety program. Co-ordinates Association Risk and Safety initiatives, ensure all safety programs, policies, initiatives and directives of Hockey Canada, the ODHA, the ODMHA, and District 4 are communicated to the SMHA Management Council, investigates and documents all matters pertaining to allegations of Harassment and/or Abuse. A rational, fair and open-minded person is the best fit for this role. Non-voting member of the Management council. Will work most closely with Lynda Partner, VP Support Services.
Royals B Liaison: The Stittsville Royals Junior B have approached the SMHA to develop a relationship between the two organizations. The Royals B Liason will work with the Royals to decide on the scope of the relationship and to implement it within the SMHA organization. Requires a creative thinker who can get things done as well.
Tournaments Coordinator: With the help of the teams, coordinates SMHA hosted tournament(s). Arranges ice times, works with team managers to ensure overall management of one or tournaments. Works closely with team representatives. Requires strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate other people to share the workload. Will work most closely with Lynda Partner, VP Support Services. Non-voting member of the Management council.
Treasurer: (Position has been filled for 2010/11 season) Shall be responsible for the administration of the Association’s financial records under the direction and guidance of the Vice President, Finance. Ideally you have some accounting or book-keeping background. Work can be done from home at your convenience but and the workload is pretty well spread throughout the season. Non-voting member of the Management council. Will work most closely with Kerry Hisko, VP Finance.
Webmaster: (Position has been filled for 2010/11 season) Manages the SMHA website, ensuring that content is posted in a timely manner and that the site continues to be available for all members. Some knowledge of HTML is desirable. Workload is not heavy but requires someone who can respond quickly to requests from the communications person so information is made available quickly to all members. The webmaster is not required to attend meetings. Contact the VP Support Services if you are interested. Will work most closely with Lynda Partner, VP Support Services.
